EXAMPLE 1 — ROADS
“I am writing to object to Planning Application 26/00745/OM. I regularly use the roads around Ashwicken and I am concerned about whether they can safely accommodate the additional traffic associated with a development of this scale. My concern is not limited to holiday visitors. The development would also involve staff, deliveries, servicing and construction movements. I ask the Council to carefully consider whether the surrounding rural road network and pedestrian conditions are suitable for the proposed intensity of use.”
EXAMPLE 2 — SCALE AND CHARACTER
“I am writing to object to Planning Application 26/00745/OM. I appreciate that tourism and investment can bring benefits to an area, but I am concerned that the scale and intensity of this particular proposal is inappropriate for the rural location at Ashwicken Lake. Approximately 154 holiday accommodation units together with associated leisure facilities and infrastructure represents a substantial change in the use and activity of the site. I ask the Council to carefully consider whether a development of this scale is compatible with the character and capacity of the surrounding area.”
EXAMPLE 3 — ENVIRONMENT
“I am writing to object to Planning Application 26/00745/OM. My principal concern is the potential effect of a substantial holiday and leisure development on the lake and surrounding rural environment. I believe the Council should be satisfied that effects on wildlife, habitats, lighting, groundwater and the former quarry environment have been properly investigated before making its decision. I ask that these environmental matters are given significant consideration when the application is determined.”
EXAMPLE 4 — MULTIPLE CONCERNS
“I am writing to object to Planning Application 26/00745/OM. I have concerns about the overall scale of the proposed development and whether this rural location can appropriately accommodate the additional activity it would generate. In particular, I am concerned about traffic and highway safety, pedestrian conditions, the effects on wildlife and the lake environment, and the potential increase in noise and lighting. I recognise that the proposal may bring tourism and employment benefits, but I do not believe those benefits remove the need to demonstrate that a development of this scale can be accommodated without unacceptable effects on the surrounding community and environment. I therefore ask the Council to carefully consider these matters when determining the application.”
